Sooo, there's not really a real anteater. It's a generic term.
For those of you who aren't a zoologist (which includes us) we have consulted the Kids'Animals of the World book to give you the how-fors and what-nots on the anteater. Anteateris a generic name for four mammals (including the silky anteater and giant anteater) of the suborder Vermilingua which reside in Mexico, Central & South America.
Anteateris commonly applied to unrelated species who also eat ants or termites. The aardvark (native to Africa), echidna (New Guinea and Australia),numbat(Australia), and pangolin (Africa and Asia).
So, there you go. The truth of the anteater. It's not as tragic as the brontosaurus(read more about the thunder lizard that never was on our blog). We're still going to call it an anteater though. Made from ash (strong wood, they use it for baseball bats), this animal toy is about 3-3/4 inches long, 1-1/2 inches high, and 3/4 inch thick.
This toy is intended for children over 3. It's not a teether, but is safe if toddlers take a taste test. This animal is finished with a natural and non-toxic beeswax polish we make ourselves and leaves this wood animal with a smooth finish.
