Some guy at Home Depot once asked me if I was a plumber. "No," I said, "are you?" He shook his head. We both nodded, understanding we were both on our own.

We parted then, lost in the wilderness of pipe fittings and repair kits. I don't know if that guy ever found the part he was looking for. I didn't, but I found some tape. That pipe in the basement still isn't fixed, but at least it ain't leaking.
